Preparing for an ISO 45001 audit

Review the OH&S system in operation, not simply the documents it contains.

Review the OH&S system in operation, not simply the documents it contains. The most useful preparation starts with the organisation's own scope, processes and obligations. The considerations below are intended as practical guidance, rather than an exhaustive interpretation of a standard or a quotation.

Start with hazards and risks

Confirm that the organisation has an effective process to identify workplace hazards, assess occupational health and safety risks, determine controls and review changes in activities, equipment or work organisation.

Check operational evidence

Review training and competence records, inspection and maintenance evidence, emergency arrangements, incident investigations, legal-compliance evaluations and records demonstrating controls are applied in practice.

Listen to workers

Worker consultation and participation are central to an effective OH&S management system. Confirm employees understand how to raise hazards, report incidents and contribute to improvement.

Review internal audits and corrective actions

Verify that internal audits cover relevant requirements and operational areas. Check whether findings have owners, completion dates, root-cause consideration and verification of effectiveness.

Prepare for an independent assessment

Ensure leaders can describe OH&S objectives, risks, performance trends and improvement decisions. SA Solution supports gap analysis, internal auditing, management-system consulting and professional training; certification is determined independently.

Important distinction: Consultancy, internal auditing and training support should not be confused with independent accredited certification or programme approval.
